Designer Profile +
Radical conceptual designer Martin Margiela founded his namesake couture house in 1988 and quickly established himself at the forefront of the Belgian fashion avant-garde. The design team that currently heads the Maison has maintained the tradition of anonymity its founder established in his career-long refusal to grant interviews or public appearances. Launched in 1997, women’s line MM6 presents a more casual, street-inspired take on the Maison’s intellectual approach to luxury. Conceptual essentials blend with unique fabrication to create a distinctive cross-gender wardrobe, with sportswear, clever graphic prints, sneakers, and geometric forms bending sartorial rules. Though always nodding towards the Maison’s archive, MM6’s imaginative and irreverent approach stands entirely on its own.
